Cleaner to stay in jail

Alojz Kromka, known as Čistič Lojzík (Lojzo the Cleaner), is to remain in jail, decided the Nitra district court yesterday. The Cleaner, who is serving a 2.5-year term for extortion and assault, was to have been released before three new murder charges and six of attempted murder were brought against him. A reputed killer-for-hire, the Cleaner is suspected by police of murdering Žilina underworld boss Gorilla and his bodyguard, as well as an 18-year-old girl who was killed as a bystander during an attempt on the life of Miroslav Ž. Police also want to question Kromka over his role in the murder of a Poprad policeman, whose severed head was left on the hood of his car, as well as a murder attempt on former Košice underworld figure Róbert Holub in Bratislava’s Hotel Danube in 1997.
