South Africans buy Šariš

Representatives for South African Breweries Ltd. announced on September 17 that the company bought a 97.6 percent stake in Slovakia's Pivovar Šariš brewer, in which it plans to invest an initial $38 million.

SAB said further investments would be made to improve Šariš's operations, located in east Slovakia and with an annual brewing capacity of one million hectoliters. The acquisition ties in with SAB's international expansion program which has seen it become a major player in Romania, Hungary, Poland as well as several markets in Africa.
