Before heading to the famous Irish Pub on Sedlárska ulica for food, make an effort to find this gem for a great meal. Located in a pivnica (cellar) at the former finance offices under communism - thus the name.
Though not a cafe, Klub F* is the perfect in-between cafe place to fill up on food. The prices are terrific - under 100 Sk for most meals. Greek chicken, roast beef, and steak are all served with a generous salad where lettuce is the main vegetable, not cabbage.
The cellar is rather musty, but the staff's good cheer and delicious food make it a must. Beware of the salt and pepper shakers unless you like a lot of salt and pepper.


Espresso Línia
Michalská 11, Open M-S 9-22.
After ducking under St Michael's Gate this is the first cafe you hit on the street. It is a comfortable place, benefitting from the newly-reconstructed buildings that surround it.
The presso coffee is average at 25 crowns with milk, but the light and dark Smädny Mních on tap draw the after-work beer seekers.
Línia also has a high-tech fitness center and a beautiful café inside an old courtyard. The inside café smells like a gym.


UW cafe
Ventúrska 9, Open M-S 10-22.
The best thing about this café - in a courtyard next to Restaurant Harmonia - is the sound of splashing water from a circular fountain.
The old iron chairs aren't the most comfortable to sit on, but the coffee is strong - Italian strong - with bean residue left at the bottom of the cup.
The ice cream is delicious with prices ranging from 23 to 40 Sk for a dish.


The next stretch of cafes are known by the row of West umbrellas that cover five cafes on Ventúrska street. Atmosphere is usually raucous and cars frequenting the pedestrian zone cause unpleasant fumes. Still there is some good coffee and good beer at good prices. Every cafe is open M-F from 9-23.


Cafe Ester - Best are the coffees with chocolate liquor in them.
Aero Presso-Depresso- Cheapest coffee, most depressed waitresses.
Camel Pub- Smoky inside and outside. Loudest music.
Kaviareň Lůna- 18 Sk Pilsner Urquel beer without equal.
Espresso Lejdy- At the end of the street. Worst coffee of the lot.
