Plastika opens plant to draw closer to eastern markets

Plastika Inc., a polystyrene and plastics producer located in Nitra, completed its new plant in Poprad in early March, company officials announced. The plant will start in April with production of polystyrene packaging, mainly for the washing machine producing company Whirlpool Slovakia, whose plant is near the Plastika site. The building of the plant is part of Plastika's shift of some of its production capacities to eastern Slovakia, which brings it more in line with the company's long-term plans to get closer to the markets of the Baltic states, Ukraine and Poland. In Russia, where it supplies shaped plastic pipes, Plastika plans to open two production joint ventures this year.
