The Spotlight

Evita*- The epic musical about Evita Perón, Argentina's famous actress and first lady, stars Madonna, and Antonio Banderas. Though Madonna has received most of the publicity while singing to the music of Andrew Loyd Webber, many critics say Banderas steals the show - that is if you can stand him singing. Beware, the ticket price at Istropolis has jumped to 70 Sk for this film. (Evita)

Mars Attacks* - A hilarious spoof on alien movies by director Tim Burton (Batman, Beatlejuice) starring Jack Nicholson as the U.S. president, Glenn Close as the first lady, and such stars as Pierce Brosnan, Michael J. Fox and of course the aliens. Go see if the good guys win this time. (Mars Attak!)

People vs. larry flynt* - The controversial story brought to the big screen by renowned Czech director Miloš Forman. Woody Harrelson stars in this biography of how a millionaire porn publisher challenged the limits of American free speech. (Ľud versus Larry Flynt)

Sleepers*- A powerful film with an all-star cast including Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, and Brad Pitt. Four boys are sexually abused in a boarding school while growing up. Later they plot revenge that leads the audience to ask what moral is the movie trying to get across. (Spáči)

Romeo And Juliet* - Talented Austrailian director Baz Luhrmann presents a modern-day version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Beautiful, convincing acting by young stars, Leodardo DiCapria and Claire Dane. (Romeo a Júlia)

Kolja (SC) - A truly great, touching film about life in Czechoslovakia as the 1989 Velvet Revolution took place. Up for an Oscar as best foreign film in 1996. Even if you only know a little Slovak, it is worth taking in the images and sharing with the audience. (Kolja)

Shalow Grave*- What would you do if the guy next door died leaving a bag full of money? A wild ride, with insinuated gore. (Plytký hrob)
