Nortel and Alcatel, Norwegian and German concerns, respectively, won a bid to become the general technology suppliers for SlovTel Inc.'s GSM cellular phone network, SlovTel officials announced. Nortel will supply technical equipment for several hundred base stations, while Alcatel will supply the mobile telecommunications system. SlovTel is the consortium of France Telecom and six Slovak firms that won one of Slovakia's two GSM provider licenses awarded this past summer.
