Trade deficit still in the red

According to preliminary data from the Customs Office, Slovakia's trade deficit was just over 4 billion Sk in May. The accumulated trade deficit for the first five months of this year is 25.7 billion Sk. In May, total imports were 27.663 billion Sk and exports 23.619 billion Sk. For the first five months, imports were 130.7 billion Sk and exports 105 billion Sk. In trade with the Czech Republic, Slovakia ran a slight trade surplus of 680 million Sk for the first five months of this year based on exports worth 33.8 billion Sk and imports of 33.2 billion Sk. Still accounting for most of Slovakia's negative balance is the country's trade with Russia. In May, exports to Russia were just 844 million Sk, while imports were 4.5 billion Sk.
