THE TRADE balance deficit for the first five months of 2002 hit Sk36.2 billion, or Sk2.9 billion (8.7 per cent) worse than the same period last year, when Slovakia recorded a record deficit of Sk103 billion.
The development came after a mild improvement in April was followed by a poor result for May, with the Sk11.3 billion deficit more than twice exceeded market expectations.
Falling exports of motor vehicles were behind the results.
