Animal shelter marks 500th adopted animal

THE EPILEPTIC dog Dixi became the 500th animal to be adopted by a new owner from Bratislava's only animal shelter on July 1.

The shelter today houses around 130 animals - mainly cats and dogs, but also pigeons, a magpie with a hurt wing, a squirrel and a lost ram.

People who lose their pets or find lost animals can call the shelter's emergency line 16 187 every day between 7:00 and 19:00. People who witness animals being tortured or would like to adopt one are also encouraged to call.
