FNM still fighting for privatisation dues

THE FNM privatisation agency still has on its books 404 privatisers of state property, most from the 1994-1998 Vladimír Mečiar government, whose unpaid obligations to the state reach almost Sk9 billion ($200 million).

Due to problems in recovering the money through the courts or bankruptcy processes, the FNM has begun allowing privatisers to make up their state dues by investing money into their firms, even if this was not a condition allowed in the original sale contracts. The cabinet has already approved such a step in the cases of Chemosvit, Slovmag, Banské stavby and Sintra.
