Loans to entice new teachers

PARLIAMENT on July 9 approved a loan fund for beginning teachers to increase interest in the profession, the lowest paid in Slovakia at Sk9,450 ($210) a month on average in 2001, compared to Sk12,365 in the national economy.

Loans of up to Sk250,000 at four per cent annual interest with a maximum 15-year maturity will be available to teachers within three years of graduating from university pedagogical studies.
