Screwy politics

The SDA leftist party, whose members include Defence Minister Jozef Stank, over the weekend distributed stickers bearing election slogans at the Pohoda rock concert, including one saying Fuck the Army and showing a turtle apparently having sexual congress with a military-style helmet.

Slovakia hopes to be invited to join Nato later this fall, and the SDA's Stank is leading a drive to reform the armed forces along Nato lines.

Other stickers distributed by the SDA included a marijuana leaf (the party supports decriminalisation) and the word sex, underneath which a Nike swoosh mark is drawn.

The SDA is campaigning for greater openness on issues such as birth control, racism, drug use and social equality.
