Opposition splinter group claims more HZDS defections

Jozef Grapa, a top official with the new Movement for Democracy (HZD) opposition party, claims that over 1,000 members of Vladimír Mečiar's former ruling HZDS have defected to the HZD. The HZDS denies the estimate.

HZDS officials in Žilina and Banská Bystrica regional parliaments have already joined the HZD, as well as the entire HZDS district branch in Nové mesto nad Váhom.
