KDH's Palko says US should back off

Vladimír Palko, vice-chair of the ruling Christian Democrats, says the US should have stopped conditioning Slovakia's Nato entry on the structure of its next government after cabinet agreed in early July to send a military unit to Afghanistan to aid the US-led peacekeeping force.

The US has said that if the Vladimír Mečiar-led HZDS opposition party returns to power in fall elections, Slovakia's Nato entry drikve could be derailed.
