Re: "Fico: We had university while US overrun by buffalo and Indians," News Briefs, Vol. 8 No. 36, September 23-29

One likely reason Fico will not be the new PM is because he dramatically misjudged what the people of Slovakia want for their future, and one thing they certainly don't want is a return to the ways of the Soviet communist government they were so happy to be rid of 13 years ago.

Which makes Fico's claim that he believes Slovakia's future lies with Russia and China seem pretty strange. If you ask most reasonable Slovaks if they would rather have friendly trading relations with the West or with the East, I think the answer is easy to predict.]

This statement, and his cowboy and Indians joke, is probably the reason his sure lead turned into a 3rd place finish. Putting his foot in his mouth lost him the job he coveted.
