BUSINESS BRIEFS

Industrial production remains strong

INDUSTRIAL production in August was 8 per cent higher than in the same month last year, the second-highest monthly value in 2002 after May's 11.5 per cent year-on-year rise, according to the Statistical Office.

Economic analysts said the surge had been driven by auto industry production led by output at Volkswagen Bratislava's factory, and could increase further in the coming months as Slovakia's European export markets return to better economic health.
