Crown hits new record strength

THE SLOVAK crown set a new record strength of 41.26 to the euro on a wave of speculative buying November 4, after the Fitch rating agency awarded Slovakia investment status, drawing a warning from the central bank that the crown was stronger than economic fundamentals warranted.

The crown/dollar rate, at 41.5, was also the strongest it had been since February 2000.
