US Steel to bid for Jugoslav Sartid

US Steel Košice will submit within 90 days an offer for bankrupt Jugoslav steel firm Sartid and six of its daughter firms, the Slovak firm has said. US Steel has been active in Sartid since March this year.

Sartid employs 6,500 people directly and another 4,000 in 26 daughter companies. Its debts total $1.7 billion.
