Mečiar circles HZDS wagons

Opposition HZDS party leader Vladimír Mečiar held a council with the leaders of the party’s district organs in which he lobbied for their support in the face of mounting unrest among HZDS MPs with his leadership.

The meeting was closed to the press, and Mečiar himself made no statement. However, the council was attended by only 54 of 79 district organisations, while many district organs in attendance were represented by junior HZDS district officials.
