Kukan for president?

The SDKÚ party of prime minister Mikuláš Dzurinda will put forward foreign minister Eduard Kukan as its candidate for presidential elections in 2004, sources within the party said.

Although the term of current president Rudolf Schuster does not end for over another year, Dzurinda is reported to be keen to unseat the incumbent head of state, with whom he has had an abrasive relationship since Schuster's May 1999 election.
