A NEW poll by the state-run Statistics Office recorded a drop in support for Slovakia's NATO entry to 46 per cent, with 48 per cent of respondents against.
The figures compare to 57 per cent in favour of NATO and 38 per cent against in March 2002.
A senior foreign ministry official called the news "very serious", and blamed the drop on increased tensions with Iraq and a controversial domestic campaign to have a referendum called on NATO membership.
