THE SLOVAK embassy in Washington is hosting several cultural events to mark the establishment of the Slovak Republic in 1993.
One of them is an exhibition of photographs by Andrej Bán entitled A Different Slovakia. Bán, a photographer and journalist, also serves as the chair of the humanitarian organisation People in Peril. His black and white pictures show the everyday life of average people in remote parts of Slovakia. The pictures are on display in the Koloman Sokol Gallery at the embassy.
The finale of the celebrations will be a solo concert of world-renowned Slovak opera singer Peter Dvorský in the Lisner Auditorium in Washington.
