Parliament supports sending soldiers to gulf

Within three weeks, Slovak soldiers will leave for the Persian Gulf after the majority of the country's MPs voted in favour of the deployment. Of the 141 MPs present, 81 voted in favour, 54 voted against, and six MPs refrained.

In reaction to Slovakia's decision to assist US-led action against Iraq, Dutch member of the European Parliament and rapporteur for Slovakia Jan Marinus Wiersma said he was disappointed at the speed with which EU candidates, including Slovakia, had sided with the US.
