Dzurinda wins Nonsense of the Year award

PRIME MINISTER Mikuláš Dzurinda has won first prize in a Nonsense of the Year poll run by the Košice regional newspaper Korzár.

The daily's staff intend to award the premier with his prize - a lemon - the next time he visits Košice.

Dzurinda clinched first place with his observation, "Your pay per hour is higher than mine," addressed to an ordinary woman in an informal discussion.

Of 52 such "nonsense" statements published by the daily in 2002, 25 were nominated for the final.

Dzurinda's statement beat three entries from opposition HZDS chairman Vladimír Mečiar and one from President Rudolf Schuster.
