President announces EU-entry referendum

President Rudolf Schuster officially declared that the country's referendum on entry into the EU will be held on May 16 and 17.

Voters will be asked to answer the question: "Do you agree with Slovakia becoming a member of the European Union?"

President Schuster said he wanted to contribute to promoting participation in the referendum, fearing that a negative impact of cabinet reforms on people's living standards could turn off the electorate from attending the vote.
