Robertson confirms NATO invitation

NATO general secretary George Robertson confirmed Slovakia's invitation to join NATO during a four-hour visit to Bratislava yesterday.

During his visit he also expressed concern about the state of the Slovak secret service, but said he looked forward to Slovakia contributing to world security and stability.

Slovakia is now waiting for 19 NATO members to ratify the accession protocol before it can officially join the organisation.
