Tkáč forms People's Union

THE GROUP of rebels led by Vojtech Tkáč that left the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) last month have formed a new political party with the name People's Union (Ľudová únia - ĽÚ).

Tkáč said they would have a different programme from that of the HZDS and would not resort to internal authoritarian methods, which they had stated as their main reason for leaving the HZDS.

The new party said it will be centre-right on the political spectrum, and their closest allies would be the Christian Democrats and the Hungarian Coalition Party. The establishing party congress is set to take place on May 3.
