Former minister candidate for SIS chief

PRIME Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda has announced that former interior minister Ladislav Pittner is the coalition candidate for head of the Slovak Information Service (SIS). The previous head of the SIS, Vladimír Mitro, stepped down on March 11 after a series of scandals.

The selection appears to have the agreement of most coalition parties. Only the New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) showed dissent, with its parliamentary caucus leader Ľubomír Lintner saying, "We still have to discuss the matter"

Pittner spent most of his political career as a member of the Christian Democrats. He joined Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union when it was formed in 2001.
