New rules bring down jobless figures

THE NEW requirement for the unemployed to register as available for work at unemployment offices has led to dramatic falls in official levels of unemployment in some of the poorest regions of Slovakia, according to the National Labour Office.

Rimavská Sobota in central Slovakia saw unemployment figures fall from 37.2 per cent in December to 32.2 per cent in February.

Employment Minister Ľudovít Kaník predicts further falls in the unemployment level throughout the year.
