President awards Dutch businessman

PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster awarded the President's Medal to Dutch businessman Garardus Hendrik Meulensteen on March 21 for his support of Slovakia and Slovak fine arts.

Meulensteen helped finance the construction of the Žltý dom (Yellow House) gallery in Poprad. He also covered almost all construction costs for the Danubiana - Meulensteen Art Museum, which was erected on the banks of the Danube in Čunovo, near Bratislava. For this joint Slovak-Dutch project, which opened in September 2000, Meulensteen provided approximately Sk50 million (1.2 million euro) in funding.
