Markíza fined Sk1 million

THE SUPREME Court has fined television company Markíza Sk1 million (24,000 euro) for biased news reporting in the run-up to last year's general election.

The television station had supported the New Citizen's Alliance (ANO), the political party run and financed by Pavol Rusko - a former director of Markíza.

Nitra-based radio station Hviedza FM was also fined for the illegal promotion of the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS).
