Putin: Slovak-Russian relations good

RUSSIAN prime minister Vladimir Putin assured Slovak PM Mikuláš Dzurinda that there were no outstanding problems between Russia and Slovakia, despite the two countries finding themselves on opposite sides of the debate in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

During a visit to Russia by the Slovak PM, Putin said that there were opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in energy, and that both sides had "a good basis for cooperation in the area of military hardware."

According to Dzurinda, Slovakia would like to work with Russia in modernising the MiG-29 fighter and Mi-24 combat helicopter, and developing the Russian JAK-30 plane.
