Great season for Slovak hockey

SLOVAKIA has had a great hockey season this year, following last year's win at the world ice-hockey championships.

There are now 36 Slovak hockey players in the top league of the NHL, an increase from 32 last year and 3.6 per cent of the total players. Many of them have beaten personal records this year.

Two Slovak players are featured in the top 10: Pavol Demitra (St. Louis, 93 points) was in sixth place and Žigmund Pálffy (Los Angeles Kings, 85 points) was in 10th place.

In the domestic league, Slovan Bratislava beat HC Košice 4:1 in the final on April 8. This is their second consecutive title, and fourth overall since the league began in 1993.

The top hockey league has had record viewing figures of 830,000 this year.
