The Czech government is negotiating with Slovakia and Austria to link the rivers Odra and Labe to the Danube, according to the Czech weekly Týden.
The canal would give Czech shipping access to the Black Sea via Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, and Romania. It is still not clear whether the canal would join the Danube in Austria, or via the Morava on the Czech-Slovak border.
