Blair promises end to visas for Slovaks

THE NEED for Slovaks to apply for visas will be abolished before Slovakia joins the European Union, British prime minister Tony Blair promised Slovak prime minister Mikuláš Dzurinda when they met in London April 14.

Blair told Dzurinda: "We will do everything possible to end the visa regime before Slovakia joins the European Union."

Blair did not put a firm date on when this would take place. Slovakia is expected to join the European Union in May next year.
