European grants situation critical

SLOVAKIA may not have enough projects in place to take advantage of the Sk23.5 billion (€570 million) in EU grants available to the country next year, according to European organisations and the Slovak government. The money is dependent on projects being prepared on time and with joint financing from Slovakia.

"We mustn't slip into thinking that membership of the European Union is only about money, but on the other hand, that is not a reason to hide that it is also about money," said Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda.

Dzurinda said that it was still not too late, and that he believes Slovakia will manage to access all of the EU money available.
