Only two candidates have been officially named in the race for Slovak president - Eduard Kukan from the Democratic and Christian Union and František Mikloško from the Christian Democrats. The current president, Rudolf Schuster, has not said whether he will run again.
Other potential candidates include Vladimír Mečiar, former prime minister and head of the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia and his former deputy, Ivan Gašparovič, now leader of the non-parliamentary Movement for Democracy.
Presidential elections are due to take place at the end of next year.
