Slovakia may have US army bases

The US is aiming to move part of its European-based forces further east in its biggest redeployment of peacetime forces since World War II, possibly including stationing troops in Slovakia, officials suggest.

While Slovakia has not yet been given any promises, Defence Minister Ivan Šimko believes that the US army has a "real interest" in opening a new base in Slovakia.

The director of the Brussels-based Centre for Defence Information, Tomáš Valášek, warned that the plans are still in their infancy, and that the US is more interested in southeastern Europe.
