New referendum anthem released

A NEW unofficial EU referendum campaign song has been released with the title Slovakia. The song was one of those that originally failed to be selected as the official anthem for the campaign.

The new song is not backed by the government campaign to encourage Slovaks to take part in the May 16-17 referendum on entry to the EU, according to Péter Miklósi, spokesperson for Deputy Prime Minister Pál Csáky, who is responsible for the campaign.

The official campaign anthem was withdrawn when it was discovered that the original songwriters had not given permission for its use.

"Do ľava," (to the left) I yelled, "Nie, do prava" (no, to the right), I gasped. "Dolšie," I screamed. "Nie, nie, horšie..." My Slovak girlfriend collapsed in laughter. Was it something I said?
