Prices fell in April

SLOVAKIA saw an overall increase in prices during April of 0.2 percent, but the prices of groceries, alcohol, cigarettes, and petrol fell, according to the Slovak Statistics Office.

The drop in prices was mainly due to the strength of the crown, which has reduced the cost of imports. The inflation rate year-on-year was 7.6 percent.

However, higher prices were experienced for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels due to a 2.5 percent rise in rental costs caused by price liberalisation in state-owned flats.
