ENERGETIC trumpeter LACO Deczi, a cornerstone of the Slovak jazz scene in the 1950s, who ended up in America after he refused to make concessions to the communist regime, will hold two concerts this week with his Celula New York band. Deczi started out playing traditional west-coast jazz, and later, by bringing younger musicians into the group, he added a rock flavour to the band's music. He will be performing with his lifelong musical partner, bass guitarist Steve Clarke, along with keyboardist Walter Fischbacher and Deczi's oldest son, drummer Laco "Vajco" Deczi Jr. The band will play in Žilina May 22 at 20:00, Rondel klub 23, Závodská 6 (tickets cost Sk180 and 200, tel: 041/7641-929), and Bratislava May 24 at 19:00, at Štúdio L & S on Nám. 1. Mája 5 (tickets are Sk190, tel: 02/5296-7552).
