Rusko and Mečiar both remain party leaders

Pavol Rusko will remain the leader of coalition's New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) party and Vladimír Mečiar will stay as leader of the opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) after no candidates stood against either leader in their parties' weekend congresses.

The HZDS also chose its 20 candidates for the European Parliament elections, but Mečiar was not included among them.

"They proposed that I should go to these elections as the leader of the party, but I chose not to," he said.
