Changes to child benefit proposed

FAMILIES will be paid monthly child benefit of Sk500 (€12.12) per child and tax relief of Sk400 (€9.70) per month if Labour Ministry proposals are accepted. The move would mean that unemployed families would receive lower state benefits than under the current system.

"We want to reach the stage where it pays to work," Labour Ministry Ľudovít Kaník explained.

He added that this was part of efforts to force the unemployed to look for work, based on increasing the difference between unemployment benefits and the minimum wage.
