President Rudolf Schuster contributed to the democratisation of Slovakia, according to Deputy Speaker of Parliament Béla Bugár, who was commenting on Schuster's achievements in office at the occasion of the president's fourth anniversary in the post.
Schuster was elected by direct popular vote in 1999, beating his strongest rival at that time, Vladimír Mečiar of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia.
Ever since Schuster took office, he has stressed that Slovakia's opposition and coalition parties need to work together.
