Teachers strike over funding

UNIONS are continuing their wave of protests, with a teachers' strike on June 20 that closed most nursery, primary, and secondary schools. Some universities were also affected.

The teachers unions are calling for funding for schools to rise to 6 percent of GDP by 2010, a continuation of pay scales introduced last year, and guarantees that end-of-year bonuses will be paid.
