Central bank loss deepens

THE NATIONAL Bank of Slovakia (NBS) has increased its loss this year, closing May 2003 Sk16.6 billion (€405 million) in the red.

According to the SITA news agency, the loss was caused by the continuing fluctuation of Western currencies, among other factors.

For May alone the NBS's loss reached Sk3.9 billion (€94.6 million).
