Parliament votes for EU entry

On Tuesday 129 of the 140 MPs present in parliament voted in favour the accession treaty to the European Union, respecting the results of May's referendum. Only members of the Communist party voted against, and one MP was unable to vote for technical reasons.

President Rudolf Schuster and diplomats from EU countries attended the meeting.

After ratification of the treaty by member countries, Slovakia should join the EU on May 1, 2004.
