Slovakia not prepared for EU funds

SLOVAKIA is far behind other EU candidate countries in preparation for receiving EU funds, according to a monitoring report by the European Commission.

While the report contains warnings for all the other candidate countries as well, Slovakia is singled out for requiring 'enormous effort' before accession on May 1, 2004 to be ready to receive EU funds.

Among issues mentioned is the need for Slovakia to resolve problems with a lack of co-financing for projects, lack of administrative capability, and poor co-operation between ministries.
