NGOs reject proposed EU commissioner

Friends of the Earth and 11 other organisations have reacted angrily against the proposed appointment of Ivan Štefanec to the post of EU commissioner. The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) appointee has been accused of lying in arguments against the introduction of packaging laws.

Štefanec is currently a lawyer for large international companies, which the organisations say would mean a conflict of interests in the EU post.
