MP accused of illegal ownership of parrots

PROSECUTORS want MPs to strip opposition MP Dušan Munko of his immunity over suspicion that the lawmaker illegally owns endangered parrots.

Munko, a member of the opposition Smer party, however, insists that he got the parrots legally and has documents to prove it.

"I say that the papers (confirming origin and purchase of the birds) are all right," Munko said on August 5 in an interview with Radio Express.

He also said that neither police, investigators, nor prosecutors had contacted him concerning the case.
